Ahhh I went to see Rachel Tucker!! I’ve never actually managed to see her in any role so I figured I’d have to take seeing her in her own solo show and it was phenomenal. So, as I was going to see Tucker and as I knew I had the following 5 days in uniform, I figured I’d make an effort of sorts.
Crucially, I organised my wardrobe in the day on Monday. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still kind of messy to anybody else, I guess. But it makes sense to me and it’s long overdue (we moved into this house in September and it’s the first time there’s been any kind of order to my wardrobe.)
So, organising my wardrobe meant I laid hands again on my Billabong skirt, which is still one of my favourite items ever. I don’t wear it anywhere near often enough so it was time to pull it out and in order to really showcase it, I paired it with the plainest possible item, a black long-sleeved tee. I ended up really enjoying this outfit and almost not feeling entirely out of place in the ludicrously fancy venue.
I am obviously still working on my remarkably awkward poses and would probably be feeling a lot better if everything I posted wasn’t a mirror selfie but hey ho. Lighting is pretty bad in both of these but overall I had an amazing evening and felt great in this outfit, it’s definitely one I’ll be bringing out again.
See you soon!
A few months ago, I finally decided that Converse and I were no longer meant for each other. My personal experience is that they’re not longer the super sturdy shoe they used to be (I wore my first ever pair pretty much day-in-day-out for about 2 years before they gave up on me) and that I need much hardier shoes. Or at the very least, shoes that are not so hardy but cost less. Seemed like a great time to follow the trend and look for a pair of white, 90s-esque trainers, preferably on sale. And I did! After revisiting the shop and the website a few times each, I finally decided to buy the Reebok Club C85 Iridescent. (I obviously needed something shiny.) They’re no longer available from Schuh, where I got them for £35, but they’re still available at full price from Offspring.
I had honestly forgotten how comfortable good trainers can be. I wear my Docs almost every day, and as much I love them, it cannot compare to how light and happy my feet feel in these trainers. Holy hell. Anyway, I’m rambling but tl;dr – I’m obsessed.
Please excuse my dirty mirror/background mess.
See you soon!
busy day today (despite feeling awful) so some fairly terrible pictures.
This morning I headed off to a professional workshop at what is basically the number one company in the world for the field I’d like to work in. It was a fairly casual event but I still thought it was important to make an effort, so I went for my H&M printed trousers and this cute sweater from ASOS. you can’t see but it has tattoo-style motifs on the elbow patches. The sweater is a little short so I have a grey vest poking out from under.
Then in the evening (after lying in bed dying for part of the afternoon), I went to a talk at the Southbank Women of the World festival. I went to see Gillian Anderson and Jennifer Nadel talk about their new book. Wanted mostly to feel cute so I gave the striped New Look shirt its second outing, teamed with black ripped jeans with fishnets underneath.
Both outfits (horribly) pictured with DMs and my Brave Soul coat.
Finally! A real ootd. Today I went to a filming of Child Genius in the morning and then just had lunch and a cute afternoon/evening with my girlfriend as she’s leaving tomorrow for a few days.
I’m working the whole rest of the week so it’ll be back to uniform until Friday!
Bought this shirt the other day from New Look and I feel really cute and cosy in it, which is great. The silly little scarf/snood is from Primark and the jeans are from H&M.
Close up on the shirt because stripes are love and stripes are life.
See you soon!
I made a couple of new purchases today, actually. (Remember when I said I was stopping? Ha!) But, as one of those purchase was just a pair of ordinary jeans – my beloved blue jeans are finally ripped to the point I can no longer wear them and I’m heartbroken – and another was a pair of leggings, I didn’t think they were really worth writing about. I know I wrote about a plain green t-shirt the other day but apparently I’ve changed the rules.
Anyway, today I bought these leopard print faux fur boot cuffs and I am in love. I saw them the other day but thought it was probably a bit silly to buy them, but when I had to venture into H&M again today I couldn’t resist. They are so cute and they team so perfectly with my Docs!
I decided to wear them out today after I bought them. Just onto campus but I thought it was far enough to test out how comfortable I feel wearing them in public and also how warm they are. Successful on both fronts! They are super cosy and warm and also I love the way they look so didn’t feel self conscious at all.
I am in love and I am tacky fabulous.
I say “a bunch” but it’s really only two. Three, if you include the Roxy sweater I just posted about.
After I finished work yesterday I decided to look around some shops for a little while and grab something to eat, rather than coming straight home. I should know this is a bad idea because I will always, without fail, spend money. But I found this really cute sweater on sale in H&M, and I also bought a green tshirt. I’ve been saying for a while that I don’t really have enough tops, although what I really mean is that I don’t have enough shirts without print on them (I have a lot of band shirts but I don’t always want to wear band shirts?)
The sweater is super cute and I’m in love with it. However, it’s so super big and long but not quite long enough that I could actually wear it as a dress. I almost wish I’d gotten the bigger size so that I could, but I’m happy with it as a sweater.
These pictures are kinda dark so you can’t see the colours amazingly, so I also have a kinda crappy webcam picture. As you can see in the picture, it’s almost long enough to wear as a dress (the first picture I’m wearing it with just tights) but if I want to move at all I need something under it…
My other purchase was this green tee which is not super interesting really, it’s just a tshirt but I’m mentioning it really because I would never have even thought of buying something green a few months ago and I think the fact that I picked up this colour rather than black or grey says a lot about my journey with clothes…
That’s all for now (and I’d love to say all I’m buying for now but maybe not…)
An actual OOTD post, at last! So many deadlines and so much work and then, in the past week, so much coughing and sneezing. I’ve had one of those flus that makes you so melodramatic, you convince yourself you’re dying. (Just me??) So Sunday, when I felt a tiny bit better, I thought I’d actually dress like a human being.
I love this shirt. I bought it about two years ago, lost it for a year, and was overjoyed to be reunited with it at the beginning of summer. (I know my hair is covering a little bit of it – it says “my Marxist Feminist dialectic brings all the boys to the yard”) And despite the now-obvious white mark on it – oops! – it felt good to be wearing a tshirt that actually fits nicely and that I love. Teamed with my black, years-old, woollen Primark skirt and the burgundy and black woolly tights I bought in October, I felt more like myself the moment I was dressed.
Obviously, it’s a little cold to be going out in just a tshirt so I added my new Roxy sweater to the mix.
I’ve wanted this sweater for such a long time, but I’m so glad I waited because I ended up getting it in Roxy’s Black Friday sale for something like 70% off the original RRP. It’s still on sale (although not the Black Friday price) here.
