Ahhh I went to see Rachel Tucker!! I’ve never actually managed to see her in any role so I figured I’d have to take seeing her in her own solo show and it was phenomenal. So, as I was going to see Tucker and as I knew I had the following 5 days in uniform, I figured I’d make an effort of sorts.
Crucially, I organised my wardrobe in the day on Monday. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still kind of messy to anybody else, I guess. But it makes sense to me and it’s long overdue (we moved into this house in September and it’s the first time there’s been any kind of order to my wardrobe.)
So, organising my wardrobe meant I laid hands again on my Billabong skirt, which is still one of my favourite items ever. I don’t wear it anywhere near often enough so it was time to pull it out and in order to really showcase it, I paired it with the plainest possible item, a black long-sleeved tee. I ended up really enjoying this outfit and almost not feeling entirely out of place in the ludicrously fancy venue.
I am obviously still working on my remarkably awkward poses and would probably be feeling a lot better if everything I posted wasn’t a mirror selfie but hey ho. Lighting is pretty bad in both of these but overall I had an amazing evening and felt great in this outfit, it’s definitely one I’ll be bringing out again.
See you soon!
busy day today (despite feeling awful) so some fairly terrible pictures.
This morning I headed off to a professional workshop at what is basically the number one company in the world for the field I’d like to work in. It was a fairly casual event but I still thought it was important to make an effort, so I went for my H&M printed trousers and this cute sweater from ASOS. you can’t see but it has tattoo-style motifs on the elbow patches. The sweater is a little short so I have a grey vest poking out from under.
Then in the evening (after lying in bed dying for part of the afternoon), I went to a talk at the Southbank Women of the World festival. I went to see Gillian Anderson and Jennifer Nadel talk about their new book. Wanted mostly to feel cute so I gave the striped New Look shirt its second outing, teamed with black ripped jeans with fishnets underneath.
Both outfits (horribly) pictured with DMs and my Brave Soul coat.
Finally! A real ootd. Today I went to a filming of Child Genius in the morning and then just had lunch and a cute afternoon/evening with my girlfriend as she’s leaving tomorrow for a few days.
I’m working the whole rest of the week so it’ll be back to uniform until Friday!
Bought this shirt the other day from New Look and I feel really cute and cosy in it, which is great. The silly little scarf/snood is from Primark and the jeans are from H&M.
Close up on the shirt because stripes are love and stripes are life.
See you soon!
I’m getting back into this again soon, I promise. It’s been crazy. I wore some cute outfits in Scotland a few weeks ago but always had a coat/scarf/twelve protective layers on and forgot to photograph ANY of them.
In the meantime, I’ve used my tumblr to give a little more info on some of the stuff posted in my huge “two years of outfits in one post” post. You can check that out here and I’ll see you again very soon.
ETA: pictured below is my work uniform, the real reason I don’t have anything interesting to post at the moment. Ignore the mess and awkward pose. Not pictured: the fetching company fleece that accompanies this when the store is freezing which is always.
So… it’s been a while, huh? (She asks to the void.) Okay, yes, I lost touch with this blog. I won’t make excuses or tell you life got in the way. I started procrastinating in other ways, I suppose, and suddenly taking posting pictures of my outfits and talking about them to nobody in particular became a lot less interesting to me. But now, I see the error of my ways. I suppose largely because I now wear a uniform at least 5 days out of 7 and miss having the freedom to wear, let alone talk about, my own clothes. So, I’ve scrolled through my phone and found a selection of some of my favourite ootd pictures. I’ll present them without context, because it’s going to be long enough as it is. But here goes: the last two-ish years of my life in poor mirror selfies and pictures that are, ideally, supposed to showcase ONE particular item.
A few of my overall favourite items here are the white rose shirt in the top right hand corner (from H&M, of course), the geo print trousers on the second row (from… H&M) and the black and white check trousers (not from H&M! From Primark!!)
I’m going to try and get back at this for real, I truly am. So, see you soon… hopefully.
I say “a bunch” but it’s really only two. Three, if you include the Roxy sweater I just posted about.
After I finished work yesterday I decided to look around some shops for a little while and grab something to eat, rather than coming straight home. I should know this is a bad idea because I will always, without fail, spend money. But I found this really cute sweater on sale in H&M, and I also bought a green tshirt. I’ve been saying for a while that I don’t really have enough tops, although what I really mean is that I don’t have enough shirts without print on them (I have a lot of band shirts but I don’t always want to wear band shirts?)
The sweater is super cute and I’m in love with it. However, it’s so super big and long but not quite long enough that I could actually wear it as a dress. I almost wish I’d gotten the bigger size so that I could, but I’m happy with it as a sweater.
These pictures are kinda dark so you can’t see the colours amazingly, so I also have a kinda crappy webcam picture. As you can see in the picture, it’s almost long enough to wear as a dress (the first picture I’m wearing it with just tights) but if I want to move at all I need something under it…
My other purchase was this green tee which is not super interesting really, it’s just a tshirt but I’m mentioning it really because I would never have even thought of buying something green a few months ago and I think the fact that I picked up this colour rather than black or grey says a lot about my journey with clothes…
That’s all for now (and I’d love to say all I’m buying for now but maybe not…)
An actual OOTD post, at last! So many deadlines and so much work and then, in the past week, so much coughing and sneezing. I’ve had one of those flus that makes you so melodramatic, you convince yourself you’re dying. (Just me??) So Sunday, when I felt a tiny bit better, I thought I’d actually dress like a human being.
I love this shirt. I bought it about two years ago, lost it for a year, and was overjoyed to be reunited with it at the beginning of summer. (I know my hair is covering a little bit of it – it says “my Marxist Feminist dialectic brings all the boys to the yard”) And despite the now-obvious white mark on it – oops! – it felt good to be wearing a tshirt that actually fits nicely and that I love. Teamed with my black, years-old, woollen Primark skirt and the burgundy and black woolly tights I bought in October, I felt more like myself the moment I was dressed.
Obviously, it’s a little cold to be going out in just a tshirt so I added my new Roxy sweater to the mix.
I’ve wanted this sweater for such a long time, but I’m so glad I waited because I ended up getting it in Roxy’s Black Friday sale for something like 70% off the original RRP. It’s still on sale (although not the Black Friday price) here.
